What’s in My Bag…?

My Photography Gear

Over the past three years, photography has become one of the biggest passions in my life.  It’s one of my favorite aspects about my traveling lifestyle, and I’m always working on new techniques to improve my skills.

I get a lot of questions from readers &  social-media followers about the type of camera gear I use, so here you go!

Cameras

When you’re looking to step-up your photography game, it’s time you go to a FX (Full Frame) Sensor, and I chose the buy the amazing Nikon D750.  I’m in LOVE with this camera, and I think it takes absolutely brilliant photos.  It’s a professional camera at an affordable price.

The majority of photos you’ll see across this website and on my Instagram are taken with the Nikon D750.

Wide Angle

This lens may be a beast to carry around, but the pictures it produces are absolutely gorgeous!  It’s my favorite lens for epic landscapes, astrophotography, and shooting music festivals.  It’s well built, beautifully sharp, and much cheaper than the Nikon 14-24 counterpart.  (I bought the International Version which saved me several hundred dollars!)  If you’re looking for a wide-angle, I’d definitely recommend this Tamron 15-30 f/2.8!

Standard

Tamron 24-70mm f/ 2.8

This was one of the first lenses I ever purchased, and it still amazes me to this day.  I’d say this Tamron 24-70 f/ 2.8 lens is on my camera about 80% of the time.  It’s perfectly well-rounded, beautifully sharp, and decently affordable lens.  If I’m heading out for the day and can only take one lens along…this is coming every time.  There’s a newer 24-70 G2 Version I’ve had my eye on, but this one still works beautifully.  It really is the perfect “everyday lens” to walk around with.

Telephoto

Tamron 70-200mm f/ 2.8

I just recently purchased the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 G2 a few months ago, because I needed a fast telephoto zoom lens for a wedding photography gig, and it’s completely blown my mind! This lens is an absolute beast, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.  It comes with a pretty heavy price tag of $1,300 for the U.S Version, but it’s 100% worth every penny.  I used to use the budget friendly Tamron 70-300, but the time came to upgrade.  While it is difficult to travel with, I still love having it in my kit.

Prime Lenses

Nikon 50mm f/ 1.8

The Nifty Fifty“.  It’s one of the cheapest and best starter lenses on the market!  With the f/ 1.8 Aperture, it’s super useful in low-light, and perfect for portraits.  No camera kit would be complete without one of these bad boys.  It was the first lenses I ever bought, and I still use it regularly.  It’s small, lightweight, and takes brilliant photos.

Rokinon 3.5 f/ 3.5

My first and only FISHEYE LENS I’ve ever used.  This Rokinon 8mm f/ 3.5 is a TON of fun to shoot music festivals with, and you can get some really funky shots.  I don’t bring it out all that much when I’m traveling (since I bought an expensive wide angle), but it’s a budget friendly lens and good to have.  Creativity is key with this one!

Sigma 35mm f/ 1.4

I just recently bought this lens, and am already LOVING IT!  Prime lenses are incredibly SHARP, and the Sigma Art series is truly something special.  The f/1.4 aperture is unbelievably gorgeous for low-light shooting, and 35mm is a solid focal length for a multitude of shots!  It’s perfect for an everyday walk around lens as well!

Travel Essentials & Accessories

GoPro Hero 5

When it comes to action cameras, you’re not going to find anything better than the GoPro Hero5.  It’s perfect for traveling, takes amazing photos and videos, and is super portable.  It’s waterproof, voice-controlled, and great value for money.  I take mine everywhere I go, and personally think it’s an absolute must have!

iPhone 8 Plus

The iPhone 8 Plus and the IOS software is simply the best in the smartphone industry.  I was an Android use for over 2 years, and when I finally switched to iPhone it just makes everything so easy!  It’s super user friendly, connects to everything flawlessly, and runs like a champion.  I’m probably on this more than I should be, lol

Manfrotto Tri-Pod

I bought this tri-pod when I was down in Australia, and have been thoroughly impressed with it’s lightweight build.  It gets the job done very well, and absolutely essential for the long exposure shots that I love taking so much.  It’s also an amazing deal!!  This is honestly the best tri-pod for traveling, and I take it everywhere!

Peak Design Slide

When I’m out traveling and shooting festivals, I need a solid and comfortable strap that I trust.  When I discovered Peak Design, I couldn’t wait to get this incredible product.  While it may seem a bit expensive for a camera strap, it’s so well built you’ll never have to replace it!  Definitely look into getting one, and I promise you won’t regret it.

DJI MAVIC

If you’re looking for the perfect drone for travel, then look no further than the DJI Mavic Pro.  It’s portably and affordable, but takes gorgeous photos and videos.  It’s absolutely crucial for my travel content creation while I’m abroad.  While DJI has a couple other smaller drones, this is still my favorite!  It’s worth every penny!

Neutral Density Filter

Once I started learning how to use this Neutral Density Filter, I think it really took my photography to the next level.  It basically just allows the shutter to stay open longer by cutting out light, so you can slow the movement of water in photos.  It’s super fun to play with, especially when you’e shooting waterfalls and oceans.

External Hard Drive

When you’re shooting in RAW (which is necessary), image files are absolutely massive.  This LACIE external hard drive is my top pick, and I’ve got several of these and never have had any issues.  Highly recommended!

Yongnuo Speedlite

I only really use my external speedlite when I’m shooting festivals and weddings, but it’s a vital tool to have in my photography kit.  I found out this Yongnuo brand, and for the price it’s absolutely incredible!

Neutral Density Filter

If you’ve got a drone, then you 100% need to have some filters as well.  I recently discovered these SKYREAT filters, and I’m already loving them.  Super easy to use, and it takes your photos and videos to the next level.
